Several months after David died I went to see a movie. I knew nothing about the movie other than it stared two of my favorite actor's, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. I had no idea what the movie was about but because of the actors I went to see it regardless. The movie was THE BUCKET LIST, a term I had never heard of before and as you can imagine.... I cried during the entire film The premise of the movie did get me started thinking about my own life and what I wanted to accomplish, experience and basically what did I want to do for the next twenty five year's.
Last June, my niece, Carrie and I were in Cabo San Lucas and after a long day waiting at the airport in Cabo San Jose for Douglas and Kristen to arrive from Seattle (they got bumped in San Francisco and didn't make it down until the next day) we enjoyed a few margaritas (too many?) and started talking about "bucket lists". At that point in time we started writing on our own "bucket list" (I found it interesting that my list was much longer than Carrie's(note to myself: am I a "greedy life's experience kind of person?). That night was kind of an epiphany for me and I resolved to start "doing" and getting busy accomplishing things on my bucket list (I'll tell you right here and now that as soon get too close to the end of the list......I will start making new additions.)
The contents of my list are strictly personal. Carrie shared her list with me , I did not share mine with her. I don't know why? Am I embarrassed? Is my list silly? Perhaps it is just me. I think of myself as being a very private person (isn't that hard to believe since I am writing this blog on the most public forum of the 21st century).
The purpose of this blog is to share with my family and friend's who may be so inclined or interested in how I am accomplishing one of the thing's I put on my list
Since I was a child, India has held a special fascination for me. When David's brother, Bob, was posted to the U.S. Embassy in India and he and his family moved to Delhi I thought I might be able to convince David it was an opportunity of a life time - we should go for a visit! It wasn't the right time however; jobs, children, mortgages, finances; not to mention David's lack of enthusiasm for third world travel contributed to halting the possibility. It was rather ironic, that in 2003, Douglas should have gone to India as part of his junior year abroad studies. Fast forward to 2010: Douglas and Kristen are now in India and in twenty two days I am going to be able to take pencil to paper and cross something off my bucket list!
